Nagarjuna Sagar, Aug.5 (NSS): Sixteen of the 26 crest gates of the Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP) were lifted releasing a flood flow from the dam on Monday.
With the NSP gradually reaching it’s Full Reservoir Level ( FRL), the irrigation authorities lifted the crest gates at 10 AM and released the water into the downstream.
According to officials, the NSP is now receiving 3.23 lakh cusecs of water while the outflow is 1.63 lakh cusecs. The storage capacity of NSP is 312.50 TMC and the current water storage is 294.55 TMC. The reservoir level rose to 584 feet as against its full reservoir level (FRL) of 590 feet.
Meanwhile, the downstream farmers are happy about the release of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Project as it has ended a year-long crop holiday and severe scarcity conditions that stalked its vast ayacut of 18 lakh acres spread over the Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
