Hyderabad, Dec.30 (RAHNUMA): The year 2025 has emerged as a landmark phase for the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TGSPDCL), witnessing the rollout of innovative, citizen-focused initiatives aimed at strengthening power infrastructure and service delivery, said Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui.
Highlighting the impact of the “Karentollaa Praja Baata” programme, the CMD said the initiative has significantly improved grassroots-level power services. Launched under the guidance of the Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, the programme mandates field-level staff to visit bastis, colonies and villages every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8 am, directly engaging with consumers and resolving network-related issues – often on the same day.
As part of the programme, TGSPDCL rectified around 1,800 damaged and tilted electric poles and replaced nearly 800 km of hazardous overhead lines in narrow lanes with insulated Aerial Bunched (AB) cables, enhancing public safety. The active participation of the CMD, Directors and officers has helped identify and address micro-level deficiencies in the distribution network, ensuring reliable and quality power supply.
Another major reform introduced in 2025 is the “Pole-Mounted Distribution Transformer system”, designed to overcome space constraints and improve urban safety. Unlike conventional transformers that require 30–35 sq ft of ground space, the new system mounts transformers on poles with a diameter of just 377 mm, eliminating the need for additional land.
TGSPDCL has approved installation of pole-mounted transformers at 304 locations, with nearly 150 transformers already commissioned. Plans are underway to install 6,500 more transformers using this model in the coming year.
During the year, TGSPDCL also installed 7,531 new distribution transformers and 291 power transformers. Additionally, the utility aims to complete construction of around 97 new 33/11 kV substations by the end of current financial year.
Reaffirming the organisation’s commitment, the CMD said TGSPDCL’s engineers and staff will continue working with greater dedication to deliver high-quality services and a reliable power supply to consumers across Telangana.
