3 municipal corporations constituted in Hyderabad region

Hyderabad, Feb.11 (RAHNUMA): In a significant administrative reform aimed at strengthening decentralised urban governance, the Telangana government has reorganised the civic administration of the Hyderabad region under the Core Urban Region (CURE) framework.

The restructuring has been formalised through G.O.Ms. No. 55, issued by the Metropolitan Area & Urban Development (GHMC-1) department on February 11.

As part of the reorganisation, three separate municipal corporations have been constituted: the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, and the Malkajgiri municipal corporation.

The move is intended to enhance administrative efficiency, improve service delivery, and ensure focused governance across the rapidly expanding metropolitan region.

Under the revised structure, the GHMC has been reconfigured to function with 6 zones, 30 circles, and 150 wards, covering an extent of approximately 689 square kilometres. The restructuring is designed to facilitate better decentralisation, strengthen field-level administration, and provide responsive civic services to residents.

To oversee and coordinate the transition process, the government has entrusted Chief Secretary to Government, Metropolitan Area & Urban Development department Jayesh Ranjan Special with the additional responsibility of Special Officer for the three Municipal Corporations.

He is supervising the reorganisation process from the GHMC head office.

Consequent upon the reorganisation, R.V. Karnan has assumed charge as Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, ensuring administrative continuity and effective implementation of the restructured governance framework.

Officials stated that the reorganisation marks a strategic step towards building a more accountable, citizen-centric, and future-ready urban governance system for the Hyderabad metropolitan region.
