
Hyderabad, Oct.19 (NSS): A major transformation is in progress for Indian Railways with upgradation of Railway stations on a massive scale, with a vision to provide World-class facilities to the passengers. Under the “Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” (ABSS), 39 Railway stations across the nation are being redeveloped including Cherlapalli railway station which is being developed as a Terminal Station at a cost of Rs 430 crore, to provide modern passenger amenities and convert them into growth centers to the regional population.
The mission got a major boost when Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for stations’ redevelopment in the Telangana State during August 2023 and February 2024. Apart from them, major upgradation of Secunderabad Railway station works has been taken up along with development of Cherlapalli Satellite Terminal to reduce congestion on other existing rail terminals in the twin cities region.
The ABSS policy was formulated by the Ministry of Railways which is aimed to modernize Railway stations, envisaging development on a continuous basis with a long term vision. The idea is based on implementation of various critical elements as per a master plan that caters to ever increasing needs and enhanced patronage of the Railway stations. Facilities planned under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme include improvement of facades & aesthetically pleasing entrance porches. Betterment of station approaches to ensure smooth access by widening of roads. Properly designed signage, dedicated pedestrian pathways, well planned parking areas, improved lighting and so on, creation of Landscaping, green patches, preference to local art and culture to create a pleasant experience for the rail users, Earmarking stalls for “One Station One Product” scheme, Enabling Second Entry for Station Building and circulating area as per the feasibility.
Techno Economic Feasibility Study for two important railway stations in the twin cities viz., Kacheguda and Lingampalli railway stations are under finalization process.
