Kishan Reddy criticises Congress govt for neglecting education sector

Hyderabad, Aug.13 (NSS): Telangana BJP president and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday came down heavily on the Congress government for neglecting the education sector in Telangana.

The Union Minister alleged that the negligence of the State governments had become a curse for the Telangana education system.

“The performance of universities and higher education institutions run by the State government in the recently announced National Institute ranking framework reflects the negligence of the previous BRS government and current Congress government. Similarly, the recently released Joint District Education Information System survey report shows that the performance of government schools in Telangana is also alarming,” Kishan Reddy pointed out.

He said that both BRS and Congress parties, which have been indulging in vote bank politics and blaming each other, are playing with the future of Telangana children by undermining the education system.

He lamented over the poor performance of Osmania University which has secured the 70th rank in the overall category of the National Institute Ranking Framework and added that OU was ranked 64th in 2023 and earlier ranked 46th in 2022 in the same category.

“Apart from improving the rankings, our universities are also deteriorating by failing to retain their position. If the situation of the prestigious Osmania University, which has a history of more than 100 years, is deteriorating, then there is no need to say anything about other universities. Not a single college from Telangana made it to the top 100 in the college category,” he pointed out.

Stating that there are about 2,400 vacancies in Telangana universities, Kishan Reddy said there are 848 vacancies for a total of 1268 posts in Osmania University and 293 vacancies for 403 posts in Kakatiya University.

The BJP leader alleged that the universities were not getting funds for Research and development, resulting in  the research in public universities has been completely disrupted.

“Universities can develop only if they have the required faculty and adequate staff and conduct research. How can the standards of education of universities improve without filling up vacancies for years and without undertaking research? This is not all the delay made by the previous BRS government in appointing university VCs. The Congress, which has promised to appoint VCs for all universities by May, has so far done nothing in that direction. Universities are being run by in-charge VCs,” Kishan Reddy slammed .
