Govt to construct 800 MW power plant in Ramagundam: Bhatti

Ramagundam, Aug.31 (NSS): Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu has announced that the State government will construct an 800-megawatt power plant in Ramagundam and the ambitious project will be executed jointly by Singareni Collieries Company Limited ( SCCL) and GENCO.

Speaking at a programme here on Saturday, the Deputy Chief Minister emphasised the importance of swift cooperation from local representatives and officials in providing the necessary land and facilities for the project.

Bhatti Vikramarka assured that the sooner the proposals are submitted, the quicker the construction of the power plant can commence. The decision to establish the power plant was made after discussions with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, underlining the government’s dedication to boosting the region’s energy infrastructure.

The Deputy Chief Minister also reminded a promise made during the People’s March padayatra, where he had committed to constructing a power plant in Ramagundam under the Congress party’s “Indiramma Rajyam”

“I proudly say that this promise is now being fulfilled,” Bhatti Vikramarka said.

Reflecting on the legacy of the Ramagundam RTS-B plant, which served the state and the nation for 50 years before being decommissioned due to technical reasons, the Deputy Chief Minister stated that the emotional connection of the local people with the plant was a key factor in the decision to establish a new power plant in the same location.

In addition to the power plant, Bhatti Vikramarka announced plans to construct Ambedkar Knowledge Centers in Assembly constituencies across the Telangana State, providing that the local MLAs can identify and allocate 300 square yards of land. These centers will serve as educational hubs where underprivileged students can receive free coaching for competitive exams through online classes conducted by top lecturers. The classes will run from 10 AM to 5 PM, with provisions for students to clarify their doubts online, ensuring they have access to quality education and preparation resources without having to travel to Hyderabad.

The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the welfare measures initiated by the government, particularly for the workers of Singareni.

Upon coming to power, the State government introduced a one-crore rupee insurance scheme for Singareni workers and implemented a 30-lakh insurance scheme for contract workers, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country. Additionally, plans are underway to modernize all canteens in Singareni to ensure they meet high hygiene standards, he said.

Bhatti Vikramarka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Patipaka reservoir irrigation project in the Ramagundam area, a promise made during the padayatra. Funds have already been allocated in the recent budget for this purpose, demonstrating the government’s resolve to fulfill its promises to the people of Ramagundam, he added.
