Hyderabad, Sept.22 (NSS): A party delegation comprising CPI(M) politburo member B V Raghavulu, State secretariat members S Veeraiah, Cherupalli Seetharamulu and Julakanti Rangareddy met the Chief Minister on Saturday night and submitted a memorandum to him to take up the land acquisition as per the pre-decided alignment. Various issues such as land acquisition, electricity charges for Sircilla powerloom and houses for journalists were discussed during the meeting.
Stating that middle class employees, farmers and the poor are suffering due to the change in the first alignment in land acquisition by the government, they said the government should move forward accordingly. On this, the Chief Minister said a decision had already been taken on the triple R project alignment change and added that it would be difficult to go back. He assured the delegation that efforts would be made to increase the compensation to the victims.
The delegation told the CM that as many as 30,000 powerloom workers in Sircilla had been agitating after the government increased the electricity charges from Rs 2 to Rs 8.30 per unit and added that they had been demanding payment of dues for the last 10 years. This has resulted in the closure of powerlooms and the loss of employment for the workers, they said and urged the CM to provide electricity subsidy to the power loom workers. They appealed to the government to help the workers by charging Rs 2 per unit as in the past.
The delegation said their party welcomed the government’s decision to give houses to some journalists in the State. They, however, said some senior journalists were not getting the houses. They explained that the government had given land to a society and added that the senior journalists, who are not in the society, were at a loss now. They demanded allotment of houses to all the journalists in the State. They urged the government to take immediate steps so that senior journalists did not suffer losses. They explained that there were a large number of senior journalists in the Jubilee Hills Society. They appealed to the government to allot plots of houses to the senior journalists so that they can get land through their society, irrespective of which society they are in. The CM asked Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy to look into the issue.
