Researcher praises Saudi Arabia’s support for disabled

GENEVA, 28 September: Ruqaya Ajaj, a Saudi researcher specializing in the rights of people with disabilities, has urged member states at the Human Rights Council to implement policies comparable to the Kingdom’s.

She stressed the importance of providing families with the necessary resources and promoting public awareness campaigns.

She was speaking during a panel discussion on the obligations of states regarding the role of the family in supporting human rights, held during the 57th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Ajaj was joined by representatives of the working group on discrimination against women and girls and the International Labour Organization.

Ajaj also spoke of the challenges she had faced in her education due to her sight loss and how, with the support of family and the relevant authorities in Saudi Arabia, she was able to overcome these obstacles and achieve notable success.

She praised the Kingdom’s support for individuals with disabilities under the framework of Vision 2030, which prioritizes their rights.
