Vijayawada, Oct.2 (NSS): Governor of Andhra Pradesh S. Abdul Nazeer paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 155th birth anniversary and Lal Bahadur Shastri, former Prime Minister on his 120th birth anniversary at a programme held at Durbar Hall in Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday, by offering floral tributes to their portraits.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said Mahatma Gandhi chose truth and non-violence as his weapons to fight against the mighty British, and for this reason Gandhi Jayanthi is observed as the “International Day of Non-Violence” across the world.
He said Lal Bahadur Shastri, former PM made significant contribution to the freedom movement and inspired the country with his call ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan.’ Dr M. Hari Jawaharlal, Secretary to Governor, and other officers and staff members of Raj Bhavan participated in the programme.
