ADG Mahesh M. Bhagwat pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi at DGP Office

Hyderabad, Oct.2 (NSS): On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s 155th birth anniversary, Additional Director General of Police (Law & Order) Mahesh M. Bhagwat, IPS, paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation during a solemn ceremony held at the DGP office, on Wednesday.

In his address, Mahesh M. Bhagwat emphasized the pivotal role Mahatma Gandhi played in India’s struggle for independence, describing him as the guiding force behind India’s non-violent movement against British. He recalled Gandhi’s leadership during key movements such as the Non-Cooperation Movement (1920), Salt March (1930), and the Quit India Movement (1942), which rallied millions of Indians to resist colonial oppression through peaceful means.

ADG Bhagwat also acknowledged Gandhi’s lifelong dedication to social reform, particularly his efforts to eliminate untouchability and promote the uplift of marginalized communities. He emphasized that Gandhi’s vision extended beyond political freedom, encompassing social and economic equality.

He also noted Gandhi’s global influence mentioning how his philosophy of non-violence inspired prominent world leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela. “Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings transcend borders, reminding us that the principles of peace, justice, and equality and women empowerment are universal,” he added. The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence and reflection, as officers and dignitaries paid their respects and venerated the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. AIG Ramana Kumar and others participated in the program.
