Hyderabad, Oct.13 (NSS): The Telangana State Committee of CPI(M) today condoled the death of former Delhi University professor and noted civil rights activist GN Saibaba and expressed its condolences to his family members.
In a statement, CPM State secretary Thammineni Veerbhadram said Saibaba, who was 90% disabled, had been detained by the Central government for a long time under the Terrorism Act since 2014, along with five others, on charges of sedition. He alleged that Sai Baba was labeled as an urban Naxalite by the rulers of the Central government. “No matter how many times he complained to the government during his imprisonment, he was not provided with proper medical facilities. After a ten-year long struggle, the Bombay High Court acquitted him and others and they were released on March 5, this year. He fought against the policies and oppression of the BJP government. Known as a Dalit, tribal and disabled rights leader and an educationist, his death is a great loss for the public movement,” he said.
