Hyderabad, Oct.14 (NSS): Minister for Health and Family Welfare Damodar Raja Narasimha has stressed the importance of expanding the palliative care services in Telangana.
The Minister on Monday visited Sparsh Hospice Center for Palliative Care in Khajaguda, Hyderabad, on the occasion of World Hospice & Palliative Care Day.
He met with patients receiving care at the facility and reviewed the services being provided.
On the occasion, the Minister lauded the center’s efforts to support those in the final stages of life and inspected various departments of the hospital. Raja Narasimha emphasised the government’s commitment to establishing palliative care centers in all districts of Telangana, highlighting the need for corporate CSR funds to further extend these services.
“The aim of Telangana government is to prioritise setting up palliative care units in all 33 districts’ government hospitals,” he said.
The Minister stated that palliative care centers play a crucial role in filling the emotional and physical care gap, especially when family members hesitate to take care of terminally ill patients.
He underscored the importance of palliative care as a form of true service and encouraged NGOs to step forward in setting up more centers, assuring full government support. Additionally, the government is working on incorporating palliative care services into the Arogyasri Health Care Trust, Raja Narasimha disclosed.
The Minister praised the services offered by Sparsh Hospice and responded positively to the requests made by its representatives, directing officials to take steps to provide services under the Arogyasri Health Care Trust soon.
