Hyderabad, Oct.17 (NSS): CPI(M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram today said as the State government did not pay rent for the rented buildings of the gurukuls, the owners locked the hostels and closed them. He termed it as a serious loss to the future of the students. He said the State government should take the responsibility of opening the buildings immediately and ensure the studies of the students without any hindrance.
“Along with the previous BRS government, the present Congress government also did not undertake construction of the own buildings of the gurukuls. Rents for rented buildings have also not been paid. Ignoring the education of thousands of students, the owners locked the hostel buildings. On the other hand, the mess charges given by the government are also not enough to meet the minimum level of food for the students. Since the six-year-old menu continues, the government’s menu does not match with the prices of commodities. Due to this, food poisoning is being caused by rotten vegetables and substandard goods in the hostels. Despite all this, it is regrettable that the State government has not come up with the idea of increasing the mess charges,” he said.
He said since most of the gurukuls are occupied by poor SC, ST, BC and minority students, keeping in mind the future of these students, the State government should immediately pay the rent and remove the locks of the buildings. He said the government should supply the goods irrespective of the mess charges. “The responsibility of providing nutritious food to the students should be taken up. Immediate steps should be taken to construct own buildings so that studies do not face such a hindrance in future,” he demanded the government.
