Hyderabad, Oct.21 (NSS)CPI State secretary & MLA Koonamneni Sambasiva Rao today said the Supreme Court, which declared civil rights activist Sai Baba as innocent, needed to tell what kind of punishments would be given to those who arrested him as a criminal and kept him in jail for 10 years. “Whether there is no judiciary, laws, constitution in this country? Whether the rulers will make arrests of anybody of their own volition and keep them in jail for 10 years? It is time to find out whether this is a defect of laws or a flaw in the Constitution or whether the rulers are full of poison in the beginning. If there are these laws that keep those who have not committed any crime in jails for years, how much one should suffer,” he asked.

Sambasiva Rao recalled the comments of justice V R Krishna Iyer, a well-known jurist, that bail is the rule and jail is exception only if the offence was proved. Prof. G.N. Saibaba’s memorial meeting was held at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in the city on Monday under the joint auspices of people’s organizations and Saibaba’s friends. Prof. G. Lakshman of Civil Rights Association, M. Raghavachari of Anti-Detention Forum and Padmakumari of Association of Relatives and Friends of Martyrs also took part in the meeting.

Sambasiva Rao said Prof Sai Baba, who is very ordinary to crores of people, was a great civil rights leader and was recognised as a representative of the sentiments of a few crores of people. “We may have won with votes, but this country is being ruled by real criminals. “Amit Shah, who has committed many crimes in Gujarat, is the Union Home Minister today and there are many criminal charges against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Where will this country go under such a rule? If people like Saibaba, who fought for the rights of the people of this country, like Mahatma Gandhi, Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela, Amit Shah is waging a war on the people of the country and is completely  against the Maoists,” he alleged. He said the left parties should be united to fight on behalf of the people of the State and the country and put an end to the atrocities of the rulers.
