Some people deliberately damaging brand image of Hyderabad: Ponnam

Hyderabad, Oct.28 (NSS): In response to recent developments involving a farmhouse raid near Janwada, Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar has alleged that some people are indulging in unlawful activities in the farmhouses located in the surrounding areas of Hyderabad, deliberately damaging the brand image of the capital city.

Reiterating that the Congress government’s commitment to upholding Hyderabad’s brand image and economic stability, Ponnam emphasised that Hyderabad remains free from prohibition laws, and citizens may hold private events as long as they comply with excise department and other regulations.

In a statement here on Monday, the Minister clarified that, following the local complaints, the police had conducted the raid at the farmhouse and uncovered illegal foreign liquor. Further investigations revealed the presence of narcotics, prompting registration of a case under relevant excise and drug control laws, he said.

“This is a matter of legal compliance, not politics,” Prabhakar said, responding to accusations of political motives due to familial ties to the Chief Minister.

He criticised BJP leaders, including Home Minister of State Bandi Sanjay, for allegedly trying to undermine the police’s authority through politically charged remarks, creating a challenging environment for effective law enforcement.

Ponnam Prabhakar underscored that the State government has taken necessary actions in line with the law and stressed that they do not harbor personal grievances against any political figures.

He noted that the Telangana government is dedicated to serving the public interest and urged residents to dismiss attempts to politicise these law enforcement actions.

Additionally, he condemned actions that might tarnish Hyderabad’s reputation, reiterating that the government would not tolerate any behavior harming the city’s image for political gain.

The Minister cited significant progress under the current administration, contrasting it with what he described as financial mismanagement by previous regimes. He listed numerous state welfare initiatives—like the free bus rides for women, farmer loan waivers, and electricity subsidies—as examples of responsible governance focused on public welfare.

The Minister urged people to take note of the government’s transparency in handling the recent incident and accused opposition parties of using it as a diversionary tactic.

He called upon Union Minister Kishan Reddy to clarify the BJP’s stance and questioned why certain opposition leaders, like Eatala Rajender, had remained silent on this issue.
