Hyderabad, Nov.6 (NSS): On November 4, 2024, Indian Railways carried the highest number of passengers ever in a single day. Three crore passengers travelled by Railways, which is more than the population of Australia and New Zealand combined. Overall, 120.72 lakh (19.43 lakh reserved and 101.29 unreserved non-suburban) passengers were carried on November 4, 2024. Some 180 lakh Suburban traffic was tackled by Indian Railways. These are the highest single day passenger figures for the current year.
To cater the additional traffic during the Pooja/ Diwali/ Chath rush 2024, a total of 7,666 special train services were announced to run from October 1, 2024 to November 30, 2024. In the same period last year, 4,429 trips were operated. This is 73% more than last year. Till date 4521 Special trains have been operated between October 1 and November 5. Some 65 lakh additional passengers have been facilitated by Railways during this period in special trains.
