Hyderabad, Nov.9 (NSS): Telangana Medical Council member Dr Pratibha Lakshmi was the chief guest at a seminar presided over by Vijnanadarshini leader Shobha Rani at Veeranari Chakali Ailamma Women’s University today on the occasion of the birth anniversary of renowned scientist Madame Curie.
Speaking on the occasion, she said Women should excel in all fields and added that it was sad that women’s participation in the field of science research in the country was only 14 per cent. “Women’s participation needs to increase a lot. Students should love science and achieve success in the field of research. Today women scientists in India are making strides in many fields. They are demonstrating their talents and abilities on a daily basis with many researches. When women give up superstitions and develop a scientific temper, society moves towards higher progress superstitions have become an impediment to human progress. We have to leave them and grow as scientific human beings,” she said.
Speaking on the occasion, President of Vijnana Darshini, Ramesh said it was sad that male dominance continues even in the field of science and added that even today, the number of women in research fields across the world was very low. “Despite the limited number of women, many miracles have been achieved in the field of research. However, their efforts are not getting due recognition. That’s why women scientists in India have published a book titled Lilavati Daughters with the scientific achievements of more than 100 scientists.
Vijnana Darshini is organizing November, the birth of Madame Curie, as the Girl’s Science Month to inculcate interest in the field of science research among students and young people.
