Cops sexually assaulted women in Lagacharla village: Satyavati Rathod

Hyderabad, Nov.16 (NSS): BRS party MLC Satyavati Rathod and RS Praveen Kumar today alleged that the police had sexually assaulted women in Lagacharla village violent incident on the pretext of violent attacks by farmers. They, along with the affected women met the SC/ST Commission on Saturday. A complaint was submitted to the chairman of the commission. On the occasion, the aggrieved women explained to the commission how the police had committed atrocities against them. They said the police came to the house in the middle of the night and abused the women because they were attacked by the farmers. They alleged that they were sexually harassed. They appealed to the commission to register cases of SC/ST atrocities and rape against the policemen who attacked them.

Satyavati Rathod spoke to media persons after lodging a complaint with the commission. She said the inhuman attack by the police in Lagacharla was an example of the autocratic rule in Telangana. “Revanth Reddy is acting arrogantly towards the tribals for the sake of a pharma company in his constituency and snatching away their lands. Revanth Reddy failed to impress the farmers in his own constituency. He should tell us.  How he will please the people of this State.

Even the youngest children in the Lagacharla were saying that their lives will be ruined due to pollution of  the pharma company. Revanth Reddy should be told why he did not have wisdom. What is the point of filing non-bailable cases against them after attacking them,” she asked. She said it was inhuman to put farmers in jails without seeing it as midnight. She alleged that illegal cases were filed against innocent farmers for attacking the Collector. The cases against the farmers should be withdrawn immediately.

BRS party leader R S Praveen Kumar said the attack on Lagacharla villagers was actually on SCs and STs. He alleged that the police had misbehaved with the SCs and ST women on the pretext of attacking farmers. Praveen Kumar referred to the SC and ST women, who claimed that they were sexually harassed by the police. He demanded that cases of SC/ST atrocities and rape cases be registered against the policemen immediately. “I am confident that the SC/ST Commission will do justice to the tribal people. The people of the State are watching the atrocities being committed by the Revanth Reddy government on the SC and ST women,” he said. He also said the commission had been asked to conduct a thorough probe into the matter and do justice.

If injustice is done to SCs and STs, we will not tolerate it, said Commission Chairman Bakki Venkataiah. He said the commission would  be strict in controlling attacks on the SC and ST women and added that an inquiry would  be conducted into the allegations of rape. He said the commission would visit Lagacharla village soon and asserted that if injustice was done to the SCs and STs, it would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He said it was the responsibility of the government to do justice to the villagers who are losing their lands due to the pharma company.

Among those who met the commission were BRS party MLAs Kovalakshmi and  Anil Jadhav and the party leaders Johnson  Naik and Roop Singh and several other BRS leaders.
