Hyderabad, Nov.25 (NSS): BRS party MLC & Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha today demanded that the dedicated commission set up on the BC caste census should be allowed to function independently and all facilities should be provided to it. She said there were many doubts being raised in the BC community about the BC caste enumeration and the government should clear them.
“Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should explain why the Congress, which ruled the country for 55 years, did not carry out the caste enumeration in the country,” she asked. She questioned as to why the details of the caste census carried out in Karnataka were not disclosed. She asked Rahul Gandhi to reveal the details. MLC Kavitha met dedicated commission chairman B Venkateswara Rao on Monday and handed over the detailed report prepared under the aegis of Telangana Jagriti.
Speaking on the occasion, she said there was a concern among the BC communities that despite several decisions taken by the respective governments to develop all castes in the society and added that there was a strong feeling among the BCs that constitutional rights had not been given. “It was during the rule of regional parties that steps were taken to give justice to the BCs. It should be remembered that justice was done to the BCs under the leadership of KCR when Jayalalithaa was in power in Tamil Nadu, during the time of NTR and Chandrababu Naidu in the united State of Andhra Pradesh and subsequently after the formation of Telangana State. Steps have been taken to provide political and economic empowerment to the BCs by the regional parties themselves,” she commented.
She recalled that the BJP-led Central government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in 2021 that it would not carry out the caste census. She called upon such parties to stand up and try to secure their rights. She criticised the government for neglecting to appoint a dedicated commission for 11 months. She alleged that the Supreme Court had given two judgments before the Congress party came to power that caste enumeration would be possible only if a dedicated commission was set up but the State government did not set up a dedicated commission until several BC organisations, including the BRS party, agitated.
“Even though the commission has been set up, the commission still does not have a chair to sit on and there is no pen to write, there is no facilities. How can it be possible if the government is pressurised to submit a report on such a big issue in just a month’s time,” she asked.
