Telangana’s inaction leads to delay in NDSA report on Kaleshwaram project : Vedire Sriram

Hyderabad, Nov.27 (NSS): Central Jal Shakti Ministry Advisor Vedire Sriram has informed that the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) expert committee’s report on Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages, which have been constructed as part of the  Kaleshwaram project, will be delayed for some more time.

Vedire Sriram on Wednesday appeared before the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission and submitted an affidavit covering various issues related to the Kaleshwaram project. He mentioned that the affidavit consolidates points previously discussed with the Commission, including recent developments.

“The affidavit highlights the reasons for the delay in the NDSA committee report. I explained to the Commission that the State government has not yet completed the tests recommended by NDSA. Despite the absence of recommendations, the State engineers filled cavities under the barrage, leading to the loss of critical geo-technical data. NDSA clarified this issue to the state government and advised conducting geo-physical tests at specific locations to gather alternative data. However, the state government has not yet shared any data with NDSA,” Sriram explained.

He further noted that once the required data is submitted, NDSA would need two months to prepare the final report. The affidavit also includes concerns about the sinking of piers at Medigadda barrage and broader planning issues of the Kaleshwaram project.

Sriram emphasised that the delay in the report is largely due to the State’s inaction in completing necessary technical assessments, which are critical for the committee’s evaluation.
