Burra Venkatesham appointed as TSPSC Chairman

Hyderabad, Nov.30 (NSS): The State government on Saturday issued orders appointing IAS officer Burra Venkatesham as the new Chairman of the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC).

Burra Venkatesham, hailing from the Backward Classes (BC) community, will serve as the Chairman for a term of four years.

Initially, Ganta Chakrapani, representing the SC community, was appointed as the first Chairman of TSPSC after the formation of Telangana, followed by Janardhan Reddy. Later, amidst allegations against Janardhan Reddy, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy replaced him with Mahender Reddy. With Mahender Reddy’s tenure set to conclude on December 3, the State government has now appointed Burra Venkatesham to the position.

The selection process for the TSPSC Chairman began with a notification issued on November 20. Applications were accepted until 5 PM the same day, receiving around 45 applications. The applicants included retired IAS officers and professors from various universities. However, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy finalised the appointment of Burra Venkatesham, who was serving as the Principal Secretary of the Education department.

The appointment file was sent to Governor Jishnu Dev Varma for approval, and the Governor gave his consent, allowing the Congress-led government to officially announce Burra Venkatesham’s name as the TSPSC Chairman.

Following his appointment, Venkatesham is expected to resign from his current roles. As part of this transition, he has already applied for Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), which has been approved by the State government. He will take charge as the TSPSC Chairman on December 2, a day before Mahender Reddy’s tenure officially ends.
