Hyderabad, Dec.12 (NSS): BRS party MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has demanded that if the BJP-led Central government has sincerity and love for Telangana, it should set up a steel factory in Bayyaram. She suggested that the State government should put pressure on the Centre for the steel factory. MLC Kavitha expressed her displeasure over Union minister Kishan Reddy’s statement in the Lok Sabha that it was not possible to set up a steel plant in Bayyaram.
“It is sad that Union Minister Kishan Reddy, who hails from Telangana, has announced it as a witness in Parliament that there will be no steel factory. It is sad if eight BJP MPs from the State are elected, not a single one has responded on the issue,” she said . Claiming that State minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has earlier demanded for the steel factory when he was an MP, she said the minister not speaking on the issue now. She demanded that the Congress government in the State should put pressure on the BJP government at the Centre to set up the steel factory. She said the State’s Bifurcation Act stipulates that a steel factory should be set up in Bayyaram and added that whichever party is in power at the Centre, it should implement the bifurcation Act.
“We have been fighting under the leadership of KCR since the time of Telangana movement on the issue of Bayyaram Steel factory – Telangana Right”, she said while adding that KCR had written a letter to the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013 to set up the steel plant in Bayyaram before the formation of the Telangana State. She said there were more than 300 million tonnes of iron ore reserves in over 1,41,000 acres of land in Bayyaram area and added that if the steel industry comes up there, it would increase the employment opportunities and jobs locally. She said the BJP, which has been in power for more than 10 years, was not implementing the promise and had put pressure on the Central government.
