Rachakonda police advise motorists on winter driving safety

Hyderabad, Nov.18 (RAHNUMA): As winter deepens in the Hyderabad city, the thick fog during early mornings and late nights is creating significant visibility issues on major roadways.

Given the increasing danger of accidents, Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu has urged all drivers to exercise caution and adhere strictly to safety guidelines. The Commissioner on Tuesday released a comprehensive advisory outlining essential safety measures to avoid road accidents in foggy conditions.

Drivers are advised to comply with speed limits, wear helmets and seatbelts, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol, and not use mobile phones while driving. Motorists are also encouraged to regularly inspect their brakes, headlights, indicators, and tires, and ensure their vehicles are equipped with a ‘First Aid Kit.’

Due to significant fog reducing visibility, the police stressed the need for drivers to use low-beam headlights, maintain a safe distance, avoid abrupt stopping, and refrain from passing vehicles in foggy or curved areas. The commissioner also recommended that drivers utilise defoggers, slightly open windows to reduce fogging, and wear gloves to ensure a better grip in cold conditions.

Other safety measures include avoiding parking on the roadside during nighttime, wearing reflective jackets and stickers, placing a reflective warning triangle when vehicles break down, and ensuring the safe transportation of children, particularly in school buses that comply with safety regulations, according to officials.

Sudheer Babu also highlighted the importance of the ‘Golden Hour’ concept. He stated, “Anyone who takes an accident victim to the nearest hospital within the first hour can save a life and is entitled to Rs 25,000 under the Central government’s Good Samaritan Scheme.”

The Commissioner urged the people to view road safety as a collective duty. “If everyone adheres to these recommendations, there is a potential for a substantial decrease in road accidents. Achieving safe roads requires collaboration among the government, law enforcement, and the community,” stated Sudheer Babu. On the occasion, the Rachakonda police announced their commitment to ongoing awareness campaigns and increased enforcement measures to promote safer travel during the winter months.
