
Hyderabad, Nov.18 (RAHNUMA): Telangana has emerged as the top-performing state in the Jal Sanchay – Jan Bhagidari (Water Conservation – Public Participation) category at the 6th National Water Awards-2024, announced by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Telangana achieved the number one rank in the country, completing 5,20,362 water conservation works under this national initiative launched by the Central government in 2024.
President of India Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday presented the awards to states, districts and institutions that demonstrated outstanding performance in the Jal Sancharan – Jan Bhagidari programme.
A total of 100 awards were declared across various categories, including 3 states, 67 districts, 6 municipal corporations, 1 urban local body, 2 partner ministries/departments, 2 industries, 3 NGOs, 2 donors and 14 nodal officers.
The programme was launched with the aim of promoting community participation, individuals, communities, and corporates in water conservation. States were divided into five zones, with each expected to complete at least 10,000 artificial recharge and storage structures. The works included rooftop rainwater harvesting, rejuvenation of tanks, ponds, and wells. Awards were given in three categories based on performance
