No application received for EVM inspection in JH by-election: CEO

Hyderabad, Nov.28 (RAHNUMA): Telangana State Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy has clarified that not a single written application has been received from eligible candidates seeking verification of the burnt memory/microcontroller of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in the 61-Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency by-election.

He said that after the declaration of the election results, if the candidates who are second or third after the candidate who got the most votes so request, up to 5 percent of the total EVMs can be checked and verified by a team of engineers from the manufacturing companies.

For this, a written application must be made within seven days from the date of results, he explained.

It is clear that the District Election Officer / Returning Officer did not receive any applications during the stipulated period from November 14 to 21 after the declaration of results.

The CEO stated that the entire election process was conducted in a completely transparent manner as per the guidelines, rules and security standards set by the Election Commission of India, and all steps have been taken to further strengthen the public’s trust in this system.
