New Year’s eve traffic curbs in Hyd: Tank Bund, Necklace Road shut, City on high alert

Hyderabad, Dec.30 (RAHNUMA): The Hyderabad Traffic Police have announced extensive traffic restrictions and diversions across the city on the night of December 31, 2025, to ensure public safety during New Year celebrations.

From 11 pm onwards, restrictions will be imposed on a ‘need basis’, with complete closure of Tank Bund, NTR Marg and PVNR Marg (Necklace Road) between 11 pm and 2 am for all private and public vehicles. Heavy deployment of traffic personnel will be made at 217 key junctions, especially around markets, malls, pubs, restaurants and celebration hotspots in Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Saifabad and surrounding areas.

KEY MEASURES AT A GLANCE

– Need-based traffic diversions around Hussain Sagar with multiple alternative routes via Khairatabad, Liberty, Ranigunj, Karbala and Kawadiguda.

– Most flyovers closed on New Year night, except Begumpet and Tolichowki.

– PVNR Expressway open only for RGIA-bound passengers with valid air tickets.

– Entry ban on heavy vehicles, lorries, private travel buses and HGVs/HPVs into Hyderabad city limits from 10 pm to 2 am; ORR advised.

– Special parking facilities arranged for pedestrians visiting Tank Bund, including Secretariat, Prasad’s Multiplex, NTR Stadium and Race Course Road.

ZERO TOLERANCE ON DRUNK DRIVING

The Traffic Police will conduct intensive checks against drunken driving, overspeeding, rash driving, wrong-side driving, helmetless riding and triple riding. Drunk driving offenders face Rs.10,000 fine and / or six months imprisonment under the MV Act, with licence suspension for repeat violations. Vehicle owners allowing minors to drive will be prosecuted.

Hotels, clubs, bars and event organisers have been directed to ensure regulated parking, security and safe transport for intoxicated patrons, while adhering strictly to permitted liquor service hours.
