Govt focuses on self-respect and empowerment for poor sections: Bhatti

Hyderabad, Jan.3 (RAHNUMA): Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated that the goal of the government is to ensure that poor and marginalised sections live with dignity and self-respect.

As part of this commitment, the government is supplying free electricity up to 200 units under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, and this scheme will be continued in the future, he said.

Bhatti Vikramarka was responding on Saturday in the Assembly to questions raised by members G. Madhusudan, Nagaraju, Kavampalli Satyanarayana, and others. The Deputy Chief Minister clarified that the scheme applies to all eligible beneficiaries across the state, irrespective of parties and communities.

Those who wish to apply newly for the Gruha Jyothi scheme, as well as those who want to make changes or additions, can approach the Praja Palana officials at the MPDO offices. New applicants can submit applications, while existing beneficiaries can update their details, Bhatti Vikramarka said.

He said that in line with the assurance given by the Congress party before the elections, the scheme was implemented immediately after coming to power, honouring the promise made to the people of the state.

Under this scheme, there are 25,35,560 beneficiaries in the SPDCL jurisdiction and 27,46,938 beneficiaries in the NPDCL jurisdiction. Overall, there are 1.15 crore households across the state, of which 52,82,498 families are receiving free electricity up to 200 units under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, the Deputy Chief Minister explained.

He further stated that from the day the Praja government came to power till today, the state government has paid ₹3,593 crores on behalf of Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries.

Through this scheme, 45,995 families in Asifabad constituency, 40,555 families in Achampet constituency, 65,862 families in Gajwel constituency (represented by former Chief Minister KCR), and 50,398 families in Siddipet constituency are benefiting under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, Bhatti Vikramarka said.
