Hyderabad, Jan.10 (RAHNUMA): TiE Hyderabad on Saturday hosted an exclusive leadership session with Kanwal Rekhi, TiE co-founder and Silicon Valley pioneer, marking the launch of his book “The Groundbreaker” at The Quorum, Sattva Knowledge City.
The book was unveiled by Murali Kakarla, newly sworn-in President of TiE Hyderabad. Rekhi later interacted with entrepreneurs and signed copies of the book.
Speaking at the event, Rekhi revealed the recent inauguration of the “Kanwal Rekhi Rural Entrepreneurship and Startup (KREST) Centre” in Nizamabad, a startup vertical under ‘Kakatiya Sandbox’, aimed at driving economic transformation in North Telangana. “India lives in its villages, and talent is abundant in rural India”, Rekhi said, stressing the need to build entrepreneurial ecosystems beyond cities.
He also recalled a key policy moment from the Vajpayee era, when he argued that telecommunications infrastructure must precede IT growth – an idea later accepted and credited with transforming India’s digital trajectory.
Commenting on the economy, Rekhi said India remains the world’s fastest-growing major economy, with GDP growth estimated at 7 – 8%, and added that entrepreneurs need greater freedom to attract capital and scale globally.
Organised by TiE Hyderabad, the session brought together entrepreneurs, business leaders and ecosystem enablers for a discussion on leadership, innovation and long-term impact.
