Hyderabad, Jan.10 (RAHNUMA): The Telangana BC-A Castes Rights Protection Committee on Saturday demanded that the State government refrain from including any new castes in the BC-A list, stating that the 68 castes already listed remain backward across social and economic sectors.
Addressing a press conference at NSS in Hyderguda, the committee’s founder president Professor M. Bagayya, along with Gangaputra Association president Gadava Srihari, said no additional castes should be considered until the existing BC-A communities are adequately developed. The leaders warned of large-scale protests if the demand is ignored.
The committee urged all political parties and the State government to provide reservations to BC-A castes strictly in proportion to their population. They strongly condemned State Minister Vakiti Srihari’s recent announcement proposing the transfer of the Mudiraj caste from the BC-D list to the BC-A category.
They alleged that during elections, certain castes repeatedly demanded inclusion in BC-A for political gains, while many communities already in the list – especially beggar and service castes – continue to remain severely underdeveloped. “If the government implements 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes, at least 12 per cent should be exclusively allocated to the BC-A group”, the leaders demanded, asserting that inclusion of relatively developed castes would dilute the benefits meant for the most marginalized.
Committee leaders Kanti Ramchander, Ambati Madhakar, Shivaratnam, Gadava Shankar, Murali Manohar and others were also present.
