(RAHNUMA) HYDERABAD The Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hyderabad held a special meeting yesterday with senior journalists and editors from Hyderabad and across South India as part of its ongoing engagement with the media.
Addressing the gathering, His Excellency Mr. Hamid Ahmadiyeh, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hyderabad, highlighted the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and civilizational ties between Iran and India. He underlined the crucial role of the media in promoting mutual understanding, balanced reporting, and responsible information sharing between nations.
Referring to recent developments in Iran, the Consul General stated that the initial economic protests in the country were peaceful in nature and were conducted within the constitutional framework. He recalled that Article 27 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran guarantees the right to peaceful assembly and protest, without arms. He further noted that the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as President Masoud Pezeshkian, had publicly acknowledged the legitimacy of peaceful protests, following which the authorities facilitated and monitored such gatherings.
Mr. Ahmadiyeh observed that subsequent incidents involving violence, vandalism, and attacks on public facilities were assessed by security and intelligence agencies to be organized acts involving foreign interference. These incidents, he said, resulted in damage to public transport systems, emergency vehicles, financial institutions, and mosques. He reiterated that Iran, like all democratic countries, draws a clear distinction between peaceful protest and violent unrest, and does not tolerate terrorism or externally driven violence.
Editors and senior representatives of Hyderabad’s major Urdu daily newspapers, including Siasat, Etimad, and others, were also present.
The Consul General appreciated the constructive cooperation extended by media professionals in South India and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to transparent communication and continued engagement with the media through direct and official channels.
