Nalgonda, Jan.17 (RAHNUMA): Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Saturday said that Nalgonda would be developed as a super smart city, leveraging its new status as a Municipal Corporation and ensuring large-scale infrastructure expansion on par with Hyderabad.
Addressing a gathering after laying foundation stones for development works worth ₹18.70 crore at the Nalgonda Municipal Corporation, Komatireddy said that nearly ₹2,000 crore had already been spent on the town’s development over the past two years and the government is prepared to mobilise another ₹2,000 crore, if required, to meet the growing aspirations of the people.
Stating that no effort would be spared for the people who had “embraced him with affection”, the Minister thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for upgrading Nalgonda into a Municipal Corporation, a move that would enable direct central funding and faster execution of urban projects.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy outlined a series of major infrastructure initiatives currently underway. Under AMRUT-2, underground drainage and construction of a new STP are being taken up at a cost of ₹216 crore. Drinking water supply is being strengthened with ₹56.75 crore, including the construction of 12 new water tanks and pipelines. Internal roads and drainage works are progressing with ₹53 crore from TUFIDC funds, while ₹109 crore from SDF funds is being utilised for flood canals, cremation grounds and internal roads.
He said major road works, including a ₹545 crore bypass road, roads and drains from Panagallu Chaya Someshwara Temple to SLBC Colony (₹565 crore), and the SLBC Medical College–Addanki road (₹260 crore), were in progress. Several other BT roads and double-lane roads are nearing completion, with many projects having crossed the 70 per cent completion mark.
Five power substations have been sanctioned for the town, of which four have already been taken up, he said.
The Minister also highlighted progress on the NAC building, nursing college, Critical Care Centre, Young India Integrated Residential School, and expansion of Mahatma Gandhi University with new buildings and professional courses.
To improve healthcare, education and employment opportunities, facilities such as SETWIN, upgraded urban health centres, food streets, parks, digital classrooms and modern medical infrastructure are being developed with support from both government and philanthropic organisations.
Appealing for public cooperation, Minister Komatireddy said the corporation status had opened new avenues for funding and development. He reiterated that the government’s goal is to position Nalgonda as a model smart city, while also ensuring completion of the SLBC tunnel.
District Collector B. Chandrasekhar, Additional Collector J. Srinivas, senior officials, public representatives and local leaders attended the programme.
