Hyderabad, Jan.17 (RAHNUMA): Union Minister and BJP leader G. Kishan Reddy on Saturday demanded that the Telangana government declare Secunderabad as a separate Municipal Corporation and urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to drop the proposal to create a Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation without retaining the Secunderabad name.
Addressing the media after participating in the Telangana BJP Municipal Corporation and Municipality Elections ‘Vijay Sankalp Sammelan’ held at Classic Garden in Secunderabad, Kishan Reddy said it was wrong to remove the historic identity of Secunderabad. He said that Secunderabad has been a central part of the twin cities for decades and deserved recognition as a Municipal Corporation in its own right. BJP would launch massive agitation programmes if the state government proceeded with its decision without reconsideration, he warned.
Meanwhile, responding to recent remarks made by music director A.R. Rahman, Kishan Reddy termed the comments regrettable. He criticised Rahman’s statement that he did not receive opportunities because he is a Muslim, calling it false and unnecessary.
Kishan Reddy questioned why such distinctions were being raised now, noting that Rahman’s fans across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi cinema never viewed him through a religious lens. He said such comments were unbecoming of a globally respected artist and strongly condemned the remarks
