BJP slams Revanth Reddy’s US visit, questions ‘Leadership Course’ at public expense

Hyderabad, Jan.19 (RAHNUMA):The Telangana BJP on Monday criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States to attend a short-term leadership programme at Harvard University, questioning the timing and cost of the overseas trip.

According to reports, the Chief Minister will attend the programme titled “Leadership for the 21st Century: Chaos, Conflict and Courage” at the John F. Kennedy School of Government from January 25 to 30, after participating in the World Economic Forum at Davos.

Reacting to the development, BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-Charge N. V. Subhash said leadership is proven through governance and results, not through brief academic courses abroad. He questioned whether such pursuits should be undertaken while the state faces financial stress.

Subhash further questioned whether the visit reflects a prioritisation of personal aspirations over public responsibilities. “Is the Chief Minister attempting to fulfil personal ambitions using taxpayers’ money?” he asked, recalling recent instances of what the BJP described as public theatrics, including the Chief Minister’s highly publicised football-related engagements, which the party says divert attention from serious governance.

Subhash also pointed out an alleged contradiction in the government’s stance, noting that while the Chief Minister claims lack of funds to fulfil Congress election promises, public money is being spent on foreign engagements.

The BJP leader said the focus should instead be on farmer welfare, employment, infrastructure, and implementation of welfare schemes. People had voted for accountable governance, not overseas certifications, he added. He expressed hope that the Chief Minister, upon returning, would demonstrate a renewed seriousness, dignity, and commitment to governance, and shift focus from symbolic gestures to meaningful outcomes for the people of Telangana. “The people of Telangana did not vote for foreign certifications. They voted for transparent, efficient, and accountable leadership at home”, he added.
