Flag unfurled at historic Kotwal House for Republic Day

Hyderabad, Jan26 (RAHNUMA): The Republic Day celebrations were held grandly at the historic ‘Kotwal House’ in the city on Monday.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar attended as the chief guest and unfurled the national flag. He then received a guard of honour from the police personnel.

The celebration at Kotwal House (also known as the old commissioner’s office) at Purani Haveli is particularly special this year, as it is the first Republic Day since the building’s grand restoration was completed in mid-2025.

As the historic seat of power for the Hyderabad City Police (serving as headquarters from 1920 to 2002), the Republic Day ceremony reinforces its new role as a heritage landmark and a functional office for the “Kotwal” when visiting the Old City.

Moreover, this is the first time since 2002 that an officer holding the rank of city police commissioner has unfurled the flag at Kotwal House. The staff expressed their delight at CP Sajjanar reviving the tradition by hoisting the flag.

Charminar Zone DCP Khare Kiran Prabhakar, Additional DCP Majeed, Task Force additional DCP Ande Srinivasa Rao, and others participated in the celebrations.
