
Hyderabad, Jan.27 (RAHNUMA): Chaitanyapuri police busted a notorious interstate chain-snatching gang by arresting two habitual offenders involved in multiple gold snatching cases across the LB Nagar Zone. The arrests were made in Delhi following a swift, tech-driven operation.
The accused – Akshay Kumar Sharma (29) and Rohit (26) – snatched gold chains from women on January 17 in the limits of Hayathnagar, Nagole and Chaitanyapuri police stations after arriving on a stolen Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle. After committing the crimes, they abandoned the vehicle near Sangeetha Theatre CrossRoads, Secunderabad, and fled to Delhi.
Under the supervision of B Koteshwar Rao, Addl. DCP, L.B. Nagar Zone, A. Krishnaiah, ACP, L.B. Nagar Division specially formed three teams, after collecting meticulous field verification, analysis of CCTV footages, Tower Dump Data, CDR Analysis and technical surveillance one team led to Delhi by S Guruswami, DI, Chaitanyapuri PS, along with staff acted swiftly. The team successfully identified, traced and apprehended the accused, thereby detecting the crime within a short span. Special police teams analyzed CCTV footage, tower dump data, call records, and technical surveillance to trace the suspects. Acting on precise inputs, a Chaitanyapuri Police team apprehended both accused in Delhi and recovered the stolen property.
Police seized three gold chains weighing a total of 55.2 grams and two mobile phones. Investigations revealed that the duo are habitual offenders with several theft and chain-snatching cases registered against them in Delhi and Nagpur.
After being released from jail in July 2025, the accused allegedly resumed criminal activity and committed seven chain-snatching offences in Hyderabad and Malkajgiri limits. The arrests led to the detection of nine pending cases across multiple police stations.
Senior police officials praised the swift action of the Chaitanyapuri Police team and announced rewards for the officers involved.
