Hyderabad, Jan.29 (RAHNUMA): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday alleged ‘tacit collusion’ between the ruling Congress and the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) over the political developments surrounding Khairatabad MLA D. Nagender, accusing both parties of making a mockery of the anti-defection law.
BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-Charge N. V. Subhash, in a press statement, said an MLA elected on a BRS ticket had contested the recent Lok Sabha elections as a Congress nominee without resigning from his parent party, calling it a blatant violation of constitutional norms.
He said the controversy had taken a new turn after the legislator claimed he had never resigned from the BRS, following the Supreme Court’s direction to the State Assembly Speaker to act on a petition filed by the BRS.
Subhash alleged that the contradictory positions taken by both parties exposed a “well-orchestrated political drama” aimed at misleading the public ahead of the forthcoming civic body elections.
Questioning the claim that the Lok Sabha contest was undertaken in a “personal capacity”, the BJP leader said contesting on a Congress-issued B-Form and symbol left no room for such an argument.
“The BJP stands for transparency, constitutional propriety, and accountable governance. We appeal to the people to support a political alternative that respects democratic norms and institutions”, he concluded.
Calling the episode an assault on democratic institutions, Subhash demanded that all MLAs who defected from the BRS to the Congress resign and seek a fresh mandate from the electorate.
He said the BJP would continue to expose the “Congress–BRS double game” and reiterated the party’s commitment to constitutional propriety and accountable governance.
