Hyderabad, Feb.10 (RAHNUMA): Stating that community needs of the urban local bodies will remain part of priority, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy stressed the growing importance of urban governance amid rising urbanisation in Telangana.
He wrapped up his week-long intensive campaign for the February 11 municipal elections after making multiple visits to the urban local bodies in Suryapet district and the Nizamabad parliamentary constituency.
During rallies, public meetings, and interactions with party workers and voters in places like Nizamabad Urban, Armoor, Korutla, Metpally, Suryapet town, Kodad, Tirumalgiri, Nereducherla, and Huzurnagar, the minister repeatedly highlighted that the state comprises more than one-third urban population.
Telangana’s urban population stands at approximately at 1.36 crore out of the total 3.50 crore, while the rural population accounts for 61.12%.
Recent projections indicate continued rapid urban growth, with urban areas now representing a significant and expanding share of the state’s demographic and economic landscape.
“Core community needs of the urban local bodies will be priority for the government,” the Minister stated emphatically, urging the congress nominees and party cadres to focus on practical issues that directly impact daily life.
He pledged that better civic amenities, including water supply would top the list, with massive allocations on cards for urban infrastructure.
In a bid to foster party unity, the minister directly engaged with disgruntled elements during campaign stops, assuring them of better opportunities in the future and called for collective efforts to win over the masses.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, as in-charge for the Nizamabad parliamentary constituency, predicted a “clean sweep” for Congress in several areas, citing internal surveys showing strong public endorsement of the government’s two-year welfare and development record.
