
Hyderabad, Feb.27 (RAHNUMA): The Retired Employees’ Association of the Excise Department on Friday handed over a cheque for ₹2.80 lakh to the family of Excise Constable Soumya, who died in the line of duty. The amount represents a contribution of one day’s pension by members of the association.
The cheque was presented to the family of Constable Soumya by Excise, Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Secretariat.
Krishna Rao described the gesture of the retired employees as commendable and said it reflected solidarity within the department. He recalled that the State government had earlier sanctioned ₹1 crore as financial assistance to the family and provided a government job to Soumya’s brother.
Krishna Rao said the government acknowledged the efforts of Excise personnel in curbing narcotics and illicit liquor and assured continued support to the force. He reiterated that stringent action would be taken against ganja and illegal liquor activities in the State.
Association president Mukunda Reddy, representatives Vishnu Swaroop Reddy, Nizamabad Deputy Commissioner Somireddy, and members of the bereaved family were present.
