Survey of India showcases cutting-edge Geospatial Tech on National Science Day

Hyderabad, Feb.28 (RAHNUMA): The National Institute for Geo-informatics Science and Technology (NIGST), under the Survey of India, celebrated the National Science Day at its Uppal campus with exhibitions and live demonstrations of advanced surveying technologies.

The day commemorates the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman on February 28, 1928. The celebration was inaugurated by Additional Surveyor General G. Varuna Kumar, who highlighted high-priority projects and modern tools such as drones, GNSS, LiDAR, GIS, and digital photogrammetry.

An open house attracted around 1,300 students and 120 teachers, offering insights into national projects, including SVAMITVA, NAKSHA, the National Hydrology Project and CORS.

The 2026 theme, “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat”, underscored the role of women in advancing scientific innovation and inclusive national growth.
