Hyderabad, March 7 (RAHNUMA): The All India Students’ Federation (AISF) has strongly opposed the Telangana government’s decision to increase fees in engineering and other professional colleges across the state.
In a statement, AISF state president Kasireddy Manikantha Reddy and state secretary Putta Lakshman said the government’s move to hike fees for engineering, pharmacy and architecture courses was unjustified. They alleged that while the government was focusing on raising fees, it was ignoring the need to enforce quality standards in private colleges.
The student leaders criticised the authorities for allowing private institutions to operate without strict regulation while burdening the students with higher costs. They warned that the move would make higher education inaccessible to poor and middle-class students.
AISF leaders questioned the decision to increase fees without clearing pending fee reimbursement scholarship arrears. “The government must first release the pending reimbursement dues before implementing any fee hike”, they said.
The organisation demanded that the government immediately withdraw the increased fee structure and release pending scholarships, failing which AISF warned of statewide protests by students.
