
Hyderabad, March 12 (RAHNUMA): Uttam Kumar Reddy, Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister, called for transforming Osmania University into a ‘world-class global educational hub’ while inaugurating the national-level technical symposium “NIRMAAN-26” at the University College of Engineering here on Thursday.
Addressing the students and faculty, Minister Uttam who was the Indian Air Force fighter pilot earlier, described Osmania University as “Telangana’s pride with a glorious academic legacy” and urged the stakeholders to work towards placing the institution among the top universities in India and globally.
He applauded Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for sanctioning Rs.1,000 crore for the university’s development, calling it the largest allocation in Osmania’s history, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and academic excellence.
Recalling the university’s legacy, Uttam Kumar Reddy noted that the University was founded in 1917 by the Nizam, while its engineering college, established in 1929, is the sixth oldest engineering college in India. He cited distinguished alumni such as minister Damodar Raja Narasimha and former Indian cricketer Arshad Ayub.
Responding to the Vice-Chancellor’s request regarding faculty shortages, the minister assured that he would take up the issue with the Chief Minister to address vacant teaching posts.
Highlighting Telangana’s engineering achievements, he pointed to landmark irrigation projects such as Nizam Sagar Dam, Nagarjuna Sagar Dam, Srisailam Dam and modern projects like Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme and Srisailam Left Bank Canal as examples of engineering excellence.
Encouraging students to make the most of their academic years, the minister said civil engineering is not just about building structures but shaping the society, urging them to combine academic excellence with innovation and sustainability.
