SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT NEEDS STRONG AGRICULTURE: PROF S SRINIVASA MURTHY

Hyderabad, March 14 (RAHNUMA): Sustainable development in India cannot be achieved without strengthening agriculture and ensuring greater social responsibility from businesses, said Prof. S. Srinivasa Murthy, Director of the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE).

The professor was speaking as chief guest at the valedictory session of a two-day national conference on “Business Transformation for Sustainable Development” organised by the Faculty of Commerce and Business Management at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) here in Jubilee Hills.

Prof. Murthy stressed the need for businesses to integrate sustainability into their core operations in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Highlighting the vision of “Viksit Bharat”, he said while India has made significant strides in the service sector, manufacturing still requires stronger growth. He noted that agriculture continues to be the backbone of the Indian economy and improving farm productivity is essential for achieving true sustainable development.

Presiding over the programme, BRAOU Director (Academic) Prof. G. Pushpa Chakrapani said the conference discussions on trade, business growth and sustainability would guide future research and innovative ideas. She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to inclusive and quality education.

Conference Director Prof. I. Anand Pawar said researchers from across the country participated in the event. A jury selected five papers as ‘Best Research Papers’, including those by faculty members Dr. M. Ramya and Dr. Ravi, and research scholars P. Bhargavi, K. Shilpa, M. Karthika and Dr. Sandhya.

Conference Co-Director Prof. D. Rabindranath Solomon said the conference received 192 research papers, of which 162 full papers were submitted and 81 selected for publication. Around 94 researchers presented papers in six technical sessions. A special journal featuring selected papers was also unveiled.
