Hyderabad, March 18 (RAHNUMA): Stressing the need for stricter sanitation standards across the city, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan has directed officials to ensure that all major roads are cleared of garbage and kept clean by 9.30 am every day.
Chairing a review meeting on sanitation at the GHMC head office on Wednesday, the Commissioner said the state government’s 99-day “Praja Palana – Pragathi Pranalika” programme must be implemented with utmost seriousness, and officials should work in line with its objectives and targets.
Karnan warned that any lapse in maintaining cleanliness on main roads would invite action against the concerned Deputy Commissioners and SWM DEEs. He also instructed that no cleaning activity should be visible on major roads after 10 am, emphasising the need for better planning and timely execution.
Highlighting accountability, he said sanitation remains the primary responsibility of Deputy Commissioners and SWM DEEs. The responsibility for removal of green waste will also rest with the SWM wing henceforth, Karnan said.
The Commissioner further directed officials to ensure the swift clearance of construction and demolition (C&D) waste, long-pending garbage, and green waste, stating that additional vehicles would be arranged for this purpose.
He instructed officials to ensure quick response and prompt action on negative media reports related to sanitation.
Karnan also underscored the importance of ensuring timely payment of wages to sanitation workers.
Sanitation additional commissioner Ravi Kiran, Zonal Commissioners Priyanka Ala, Manda Makarand, Mukunda Reddy, along with Deputy Commissioners, SWM DEEs, and Ramky representatives were present at the meeting.
