Syrian authorities evacuate dozens of families as river floods Hasakah neighborhoods

LONDON(RAHNUMA): Syrian authorities evacuated on Tuesday dozens of families in Hasakah city, northeast Syrian Arab Republic, after floodwaters from the Khabur River inundated homes due to renewed overflow since last evening.

Water flooded residential areas in the Al-Mirdian, Al-Nashwa, and Ghwairan neighborhoods, prompting emergency teams to evacuate residents to safer locations as conditions worsened, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.

Some families evacuated to a shelter at Hassan Khamis School, which the Syrian Arab Red Crescent had equipped with mattresses and blankets.

Authorities warned that Syria will continue to face heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and hail this week across several regions, including the coastal city of Latakia and Raqqa, located in the eastern part of the country along the north bank of the Euphrates River.

Rainfall accumulations are expected to range from 40 to 70 mm, while strong winds could reach speeds of 65 to 80 km per hour, SANA reported.
