Jared Kushner seeks to build Gaza police force

MIAMI(RAHNUMA): US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner on Thursday said he is working to build a police force in Gaza, and a sovereign fund with the help of the Saudi government to rebuild the Palestinian enclave.

There have been about 200,000 applicants for the Palestinian police force in Gaza, and more than 70,000 have “passed our vetting,” he said at the Future Investment Initiative’s Priority Summit in Miami.

“We want to see this region built for, at least in Gaza, we want to see it built for the people of Gaza.”

Referring to the UN undersecretary-general for humanitarian affairs, Kushner said: “We’ve been able to work with the United Nations. I give Tom Fletcher a lot of credit.”

Kushner said he is in “the final stages” of negotiations with Hamas on its demilitarization, “where they basically agreed in principle to follow through.”

He praised Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Turkiye “and many others” for supporting his work in Gaza.
