PARIS(RAHNUMA): Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday the US expects its operation in Iran to conclude in “weeks, not months” after he met with G7 foreign ministers in France.
Rubio also said Iran may decide to set up a “tolling system” for the Strait of Hormuz.
He added that he had made progress with allies in opposing Iranian threats to start toll vessels that pass through the strategic strait.
“Not only is this illegal, it’s unacceptable, it’s dangerous to the world, and it’s important that the world have a plan to confront it,” Rubio told reporters in Paris, where he said he found “a lot of buy-in” to opposing the Iranian plan.
Rubio also said Friday that Iran had not responded to a widely-reported 15-point plan to end the war but had sent “messages” showing an interest in diplomacy.
“We haven’t gotten it yet,” he said.
“We’ve had an exchange of messages and indications from the Iranian system — whatever’s left of it — about a willingness to talk about certain things.”
