Hyderabad, March 31 (RAHNUMA): The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TGHRC) has taken suo-motu cognizance of two incidents raising serious human rights concerns, and directed the district authorities concerned to submit detailed reports.
The first case involves alleged neglect of an elderly couple in Khammam district which was published in a vernacular daily on Tuesday, highlighting possible violations of their right to live with dignity and gaps in implementing the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007. Bhukya Bikya (82) and his wife Hampili (79), residents of Padamati Thanda, Khammam Rural Mandal, are allegedly being neglected by their sons despite their financial stability.
The second case relates to a four-year-old boy in Yadadri Bhongir district who reportedly lost an eye in a stray dog attack, raising concerns over public safety and municipal negligence.
Terming both issues serious, the Commission has sought reports from the respective District Collectors – Khammam and Yadadri Bhongir – on action taken, welfare measures and preventive steps. The matters are posted for submission of reports by April 27.
