Syria’s Al-Shaibani and Lebanon’s Salam discuss coordination amid regional conflict

LONDON(RAHNUMA): Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani discussed the regional conflict’s impact on security in a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Monday.

Al-Shaibani reaffirmed the Syrian Arab Republic’s support for Lebanon amid ongoing regional tensions, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

Lebanon was drawn into a war with Israel by the Iran-backed Hezbollah, which launched strikes against Israel early in March in retaliation for the US and Israel’s killing of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in February.

Al-Shaibani and Salam emphasized the need for ongoing coordination between the two countries to enhance security and address current challenges, according to SANA.

Since the fall of the Bashar Assad regime in December 2024, the two countries have increased their cooperation. Syrian and Lebanese authorities continue to address cross-border smuggling, including of arms and drugs, which threaten their national security.
