Hyderabad, April 16 (RAHNUMA): BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao said that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (Women’s Reservation Act) marks a pivotal milestone in the history of the nation and the BJP government at the Centre has introduced the legislation with the specific objective of implementing a 33 percent reservation for the women in legislative bodies.
He also said that driven by a firm resolve to further strengthen the political empowerment of women, the Modi government had also introduced an amendment in the Parliament to ensure the implementation of this Act starting from 2029.
“Concurrently, we are also moving forward with the delimitation process. With this legislation, the dream of equal representation—which the women have cherished for many years—is finally set to become a reality,” he said.
“On the occasion of this historic decision, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of the women of Telangana and the people of the state. Likewise, I convey my best wishes to all the women across Telangana. I firmly believe that this decision will chart a new course for women’s empowerment,” he said.
Speaking to the media here on Thursday, the BJP Telangana chief claimed that the legislation bill become possible solely under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and its implementation would vastly expand the role of the women in the country’s political landscape.
He noted that given that the nation’s population has reached 1.4 billion, this legislation also paves the way for increasing the total number of the seats by approximately 50 percent and added that by reserving 33 percent of these seats for the women, it ensures that they receive due representation.
Ramchander Rao made it clear that the narrative suggesting that this legislation would cause harm to any specific state or region was entirely false propaganda.
He urged the public not to be swayed by this malicious campaign being orchestrated by the Congress party. The BJP leader said the historic decision, introduced for the empowerment of women, would ensure that they secure their rightful representation in the legislative bodies.
