Japan provides $12m through World Bank to support Palestinian health, education

LONDON(RAHNUMA): Japan has contributed about $12 million to support fiscal stability and public health in the Palestinian territories through World Bank projects.

The Representative Office of Japan to Palestine said that the funds will support essential sectors impacted by the fiscal deficit resulting from the Gaza conflict and amid tightening Israeli restrictions on the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.

It said: “The education and health sectors, which together account for approximately 60 percent of total wage expenditures, are particularly critical, and the inability to fully pay salaries in these sectors poses a direct threat to the continued operation of schools and healthcare facilities.”

The funds will be distributed through the World Bank’s Palestinian Fund for Reconstruction and Development, according to the WAFA News Agency.

Support for the health sector will provide clinic services to 8,040 people across six public hospitals, along with essential medical equipment, medicines, and supplies.

The PFRD program supports vulnerable groups and recovery efforts in Gaza, alongside projects focused on human capital development and private sector growth.

The statement added: “Japan remains committed to supporting the Palestinian people in these challenging times. It will continue to strengthen the resilience of the Palestinian Authority and maintain the health and well-being of its citizens, while standing alongside Palestine in its efforts.”
